Apple is rumored to finally bring NFC to its iPhone line-up this coming generation with the iPhone 6. Bloomberg reported on Sunday that Apple would be partnering with Visa, Mastercard, and American Express to make the new iPhone into an "electronic wallet". So lets take a look at what this move means and what kind of impact it may have.
NFC or Near Field Communications is a module that allows a device to interact with its surroundings using other similar chips. In today's world, the majority of NFC is used to interact with modules that are present in devices such as ones present at checkout counters. With this NFC installed, the iPhone will be able to communicate with these devices and ultimately allow you to pay with it. By loading your credit or debit card's information, and thanks to this proposed partnership with the major cards, you'll be able to pay your total by a swipe of your iPhone in a store near you.
All in all, its an overdue move by Apple but definitely a signature Apple move that will only make the switch for Android users that much easier for many.
Note: NFC will be a hardware addition, not a software one, so in order to use this module, you will have to unfortunately have an iPhone 6.
